What to know about bariatric revision procedures
No matter why you need a weight loss revision procedure, our team is here to care for you and support your weight loss journey.
Gastric bypass revision
Most bariatric or weight loss surgery outcomes are successful, and many patients will go on to meet their weight loss goals. However, if you have started to regain weight after initial success from gastric bypass or have medical complications related to your surgery, revision surgery is an option. We offer an endoscopic revision procedure to help repair the stomach from a gastric bypass, as well as other revision and conversion options.
When considering revision surgery, it's important to consider the potential risks, which may include minor and major complications.
Minor complications can include:
- Acid reflux (heartburn)
- Bowel problems, including constipation, diarrhea, bloating, cramping or gas
- Excess or loose skin from rapid weight loss
- Gallstones or gallbladder disease
- Nutritional deficiencies as a result of malabsorption (food bypassing the stomach)
- Vomiting or nausea
- Wound or skin infection
Major complications can include:
- Blood clots in the legs or lungs
- Bowel leaks or obstruction
- Internal bleeding
- Internal hernia
- Perforation (tears) or leaks of the stomach/intestine
Outcomes from revision and conversion surgery vary from patient to patient. Speak with your surgeon or care provider about any concerns you may have about your surgery.
